The Decker Library at Ava High School is dedicated to facilitating student learning and the campus curriculum. We aim to provide students with a supportive learning environment to meet their educational needs and seek to show students resources to assist them on their learning journeys. Further, the library intends to promote a love of reading, as this will ultimately create a strong and independent learner.
The library currently houses over 10,000 print resources.
Dr. Max Decker
March 1987
In March 1987, the Ava High School Library was officially “Decker Library,” named in recognition of Dr. H. Max Decker, Ava High School principal and longtime educator in the Ava Public Schools.
An Ava alumnus, Ms. Taylor graduated from Missouri State University in 1989 with a degree in History and a minor in English. She earned her librarian certification in 1999 and went on to earn a Master's in Guidance and Counseling at MSU in 2000.
Ms. Taylor has been a member of the Ava School District for over 30 years, with this marking her 25th year as a librarian. Her journey began as a secretary for the high school counselors, followed by three years as the middle school secretary. She then spent three years as a high school English teacher before serving as the middle school librarian for one year and eventually settling into the high school library.
Ms. Taylor enjoys reading all kinds of books, scouring Pinterest for recipes she might never make, and surfing the internet to find tools that make everyday life easier.
Since 2005, Ms. Taylor has served as the NHS adviser and was also been a member of the MANHS executive board for several years. Additionally, she has been the Senior Adviser for more than 15 years.
Be sure to ask Ms. Taylor for a great book recommendation, and feel free to reach out to her with any questions on how to find information!
